2. What happens if I do not bring the necessary documents to fingerprint?
If necessary documents are not provided at the time of printing, it can result in an applicant not being printed.
3. Do I have to create a Be a Mentor in order to complete fingerprints?
Yes, Be a Mentor accounts are required to be completed and approved before an applicant comes to get fingerprinted. Failure to not have an active Be a Mentor account can result in not being printed as we run part of your background via the Be a Mentor portal, for additional assistance on how to register, please visit our homepage and select the category that best suits the type of prints you are looking to complete.
4. How often do I have to renew my volunteer badge?
Volunteer badges are only valid during the current fiscal school year (ex: August 2025 – May 2026) with the exception of summer school if your site has approved to extend the badge for the summer. Every August, volunteer applicants are to renew their paperwork in order to receive a new badge for the current school year. An updated livescan form must be turned in to fingerprint along with your valid Govt. ID annually, TB test every 4 years in order to receive a new badge.
5. Do I need to book an appointment?
No, fingerprint operates on a walk-in basis, meaning no appointment necessary! If all steps have been completed and all documents are ready, applicants can stop by any time during our hours of operation.
6. How do I know if I’ve been cleared?
- District Employees you can see your results via your Be a Mentor portal, or contact your HR personnel to receive updates on your fingerprint clearance.
- Volunteers you can see your results via your Be a Mentor portal, or contact your corresponding school site volunteer coordinator to receive updates on your fingerprint clearance and badge pick up.
- Outside Contractors and Student Teachers you can see your results via your Be a Mentor portal, additionally you will receive a notification within that portal with the date you cleared. You can also reach out to fingerprint for further assistance.
7. How can I add or change school sites to volunteer at?
If this is your first time registering to volunteer, please refer to the Volunteer (link to volunteer category if possible) category on our homepage. If you have an existing account and are looking to add or switch school sites, please contact the schools you wish to volunteer for and mention you have an active account, there they will be able to give you verbal approval and provide the instructions on how to add their site to your profile. It is important to have all sites you are wishing to volunteer for reflect on your Be a Mentor as badges will not be valid at those sites if the school cannot access your profile.
8. How long is the clearance process?
Fingerprint returns can take anywhere from same day results to up to 6 months to come back. Unfortunately, fingerprint does not have any control over how long these results take to come back, therefore, we cannot expedite results for applicants. Once prints are sent out to the DOJ and FBI, fingerprint waits for the results and updates your Be a Mentor portal as results from the agencies come in. For fingerprint status please reach out to your corresponding personnel for updates.
9. How long does the printing process take from the moment I arrive?
All applicants are to sign in at our window upon arrival. The fingerprint process will take roughly 20-30 minutes per applicant once your name has been called. Please be advised, we operate on a first come first serve basis, meaning if there are people ahead of you, you will have to wait your turn.
