The Department of Public Safety and the Stockton Unified School District entered into a settlement agreement with the California Department of Justice to address disproportionalities in student discipline referrals to law enforcement. The agreement required several procedures and policies be put in place to address these concerns. The district successfully completed all the required tasks and was released from DOJ oversight in early 2024. The district and Department of Public Safety committed to continue work within the heart of the agreement to ensure a safe and just learning environment for SUSD students, beyond the term of the settlement.
