Youth Advisory Board (YAB) members serve as ambassadors to create a healthy school and community environment. In order to reinforce our Department’s core value of “Safeguarding Our Future,” the SUSD Department of Public Safety’s YAB members meet with the Chief of Police on an ongoing basis to offer a voice for the youth regarding law enforcement.
Why Join Us?
The Youth Advisory Board (YAB) is a unique opportunity for students striving to vocalize the needs of youth by serving as ambassadors to the SUSD Department of Public Safety.
YAB members develop skills that empower them to create a healthy school and community environment. The role of a YAB member is to provide the voice and perspective of local youth to guide the efforts of the Department’s policies and programs concerning young people and the community. YAB members will meet with the Chief of Police on an ongoing basis to:
- Serve as a youth ambassador for the SUSD Department of Public Safety
- Reflect, advise and provide feedback on policies and youth programs
- Gain skills in leadership, civic engagement and advocacy
- Build active strategies for change and make an impact in your community
