The Explorer Program offers young adults a personal awareness of the criminal justice system through training, practical experiences, competition and other activities. Additionally, the program promotes personal growth through character development, respect for the rule of law, physical fitness, good citizenship and patriotism.
Law Enforcement Exploring is a division of the Learning for Life program. SUSD DPS Explorer POST 1852 is sponsored by the SUSD Department of Public Safety. The Explorer Program offers young men and women insight into the field of law enforcement and the opportunity to volunteer in their community.
What We Are About
Serving Our Community
The SUSD DPS Explorer Program offers a unique opportunity for Explorers to volunteer with many communities that the District and Department serves.
Explorers are hands-on for all annual Department community events such as holiday food drives, school supply giveaways, National Night Out, Trunk-or-Treat and more.
Basic Law Enforcement Training
Our Explorers receive instruction in all phases of law enforcement including criminal law, traffic law, criminal investigation, crime prevention, crime scene investigation, traffic control, accident investigation, dispatch, records and other related fields.
The weekly Explorer meetings are held every Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and consist of general business, training scenarios, physical training and community-oriented policing.
Explorer Competition
Many of our SUSD DPS Explorers participate in a yearly Explorer Competition. Explorers test their skills at local, regional, state and national Explorer Competitions.
Additionally, the program promotes personal growth through character development, respect for the rule of law, physical fitness, good citizenship and patriotism.
