Sergeant Smith was born and raised in Stockton, California graduating from Bear Creek High School in 2001. He continued his education attending both Grambling State University and CSU, Fresno on a track and field scholarship. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in criminology in 2007. An avid Athlete, he played Arena Football for several years and was invited to a private workout with the San Francisco 49ers and other NFL teams. Sergeant Smith had a pssion for helping others and strived to give back and serve the community he grew up in. He began his law enforcement career in 2013 with the Stockton Police Department. He worked on several task forces including the Community Response Team, the Strategic Community Officer unit, Mobile Field Force, Peer Support, Defense and Tactics team (KOGA), and Recruiting Team. In 2020, he joined the Stockton Unified School District Police Department as a Sergeant. He oversees the department’s recruiting team, defensive tactics team, and the Field Training Program. He hopes to inspire more young men and women within our community to strive to overcome adversity as he believes in hard work and is an example of what it accomplishes. As a Christian, a husband, a father, and a positive contributor to our community, he remains committed to his calling and uphold the high standards of which he was called to do.
